About Us

Our passion for quality coffee is why we import specialty green beans for premier roasters in the US, driven by ethics and transparency.

History

Our story started way back in 1858, when Carlos Ferreira Barbosa, the eldest son of a Portuguese family, set off from the Douro River region in Portugal to pursue his dreams in Brazil. Nearly two decades later, his younger brother Antonio landed in Rio de Janeiro in search of his brother.

It was only several years later that Antonio finally noticed the "CFB" markings on coffee sacks and realized there could be connection to his older brother. He diligently traced the coffee to its source and was reunited with his brother Carlos in the town of “Água Limpa”, in southern Minas Gerais. This marked the start of the Barbosa family enduring and passionate involvement with coffee. Now the fifth and sixth generations - Breno, as his father Bruno Regis make their own contributions to this enduring, 165-year journey.

Who we are

Breno Costa, Spot On Coffees' founder, grew up on a coffee and dairy farm in Minas Gerais, Brazil. He has a background in animal husbandry and specialized in the coffee business. Having devoted  over thirty years of his life to the family farm, Breno was able to develop close relationships with a network of coffee farmers.  He places a high premium on the farm life he cherishes, and is committed to continuous growth, actively participating in workshops, congresses, and coffee education programs to stay at the forefront of industry developments. In 2016 he made a life-changing decision to move to Illinois, where he realized the time was right to embark on a fulfilling venture that resonated with his passion for coffee. Armed with firsthand experience in the challenges encountered by smallholders, he recognized the value of establishing a connection between these farmers and the US market. This symbiotic relationship benefits both all players along the spectrum: the coffee farmers at the origin who will be able to share their coffee with a broader world, the roasters, who will have access to coffee of fabulous quality, lovingly crafted by hard working hands, and finally the end consumer, who will enjoy a superior cup of coffee. It was this vision that gave birth to the company, a testament to Breno's commitment to bridging the gap in the coffee industry.
