Francisco was born in 1966 in the city of Monte Sião (MG). His father was already cultivating coffee and owned an area of 5 alqueires (60 acres) with approximately 5000 coffee plants. In 1978, his mother inherited a farm, and they moved there. The farm had an area of 12 alqueires (about 144 acres), and planted coffee from scratch. They started with 6,000 coffee plants, and as soon as he was old enough, Francisco started helping his father manage the crop and learn the techniques involved in coffee farming.
In 1982, they sold that land and bought another piece of land with an area of 26 alqueires (34u acres). Francisco and his father each planted 3,000 plants. Francisco got married in 1991, and in 1996 he returned to live in Monte Sião. Today, he has 14 thousand coffee plants on 8.5 alqueires (102 acres). Since the unfortunate passing of his gather he has been working the farm alone.
